Introductory Pressure Pipe Welding
This 60 hour introductory level program is intended for members who wish to learn basic SMAW pipe welding techniques. Students must have prior SMAW welding experience. This course will be scheduled depending on interest and could be held during daytime hours.
Cross Connection Control Re-Certification
AWWA Cross Connection Control Testers must be recertified every five years. This course provides the opportunity to update cross connection control knowledge and skills and then to write the required examination for re-certification. Course duration is 15 hours and is intended for members with certifications that are expiring. This course will begin on January 11, at 6 pm. (eligible members have been contacted)
This course is compulsory for all new members. Students will learn the history of unionism, the UA Standard for Excellence and their responsibility as union members. Next courses, Pictou February 2, 8 am-noon, Dartmouth February 23, 6-10 pm.
NFPA 13 Update
This course will review and promote discussion of changes within the 2013 edition of the NFPA 13 Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems. In addition, changes affecting the current Sprinkler fitter and how these changes impact the installation of future systems will be covered. Course is scheduled for March 28 & 30, 6-9 pm. Members who complete the course will receive a copy of the 2013 NFPA 13 code book.
At the end of this 60 hour course each student will write the G-7 gas exam. You must be a Journeyman Plumber or Steamfitter to be eligible for this training. Course starts on March 15, and will be held Wednesday and Thursday nights from 6-9 pm. This certification is required to install gas piping in Nova Scotia.
This certification course is intended to teach members how to safely operate a forklift. Next course March 25, 8 am-4 pm. (Work boots required)
This 14 hour course will cover mathematical concepts required to perform bending procedures as well as practical shop projects. Students will learn the “simple” bending process as well as the setback, advance, gain (SAG) process. Course will be scheduled based on interest and is open to all members.
This 6 hour course will include manufacturer training on proper grooving procedures, installation and product applications. In addition, practical projects will be carried out using grooved pipe and fittings. Next course February 22, 23, 6-9 pm.
Brazing & Silfos
This 8 hour course offers students theory and practical training on proper procedures utilized to join copper to copper as well as copper to steel. Next course March 4, 8 am-4 pm.
Plumbing Code Update
This 6 hour course will include a review as well as changes to the 2015 National Plumbing Code. Next course March 27, 28, 6-9 pm.
