The following is a list of courses that are tentatively scheduled. Please review and sign up as soon as possible to reserve your seat; other courses will be added if numbers permit. Sign up online or call 902-442-0120.


Work Ready Training

Required for all members working under the Industrial, Commercial Institutional agreement.

Sprinkler Fitter

Level 1 training is scheduled to begin on Oct. 7, all eligible Sprinkler apprentices should register online @ nsapprenticeship.ca as soon as possible.

Heritage Course

This 4 hour course is compulsory for all new members. Students will learn the history of unionism, the UA Standard for Excellence and their responsibility as union members. Next course dates. Sept. 26, 5-9 pm, Nov. 2, 8 am-noon.

Telehandler/Forklift

This certification course is intended to teach members how to safely operate both telehandlers and forklifts. Next course dates, Oct. 5, Nov. 16, 8 am-4 pm (Work boots required)

Pipe Fabrication

This 40 hour course is designed for members who wish to enhance their pipefitting skills. Students will learn how to interpret spool sheet drawings and correctly prepare steel pipe and fittings for various welded joints, such as socket welds, butt welds, mitered joints and saddles. Students will assemble various welded piping spools. Course dates will be determined based on interest.

Brazing & Silfos

This 8 hour course offers students theory and practical training on proper procedures utilized to join copper to copper as well as copper to steel. Next course dates. Sept. 28, 8 am-4 pm, Nov. 16, 8 am-4 pm, performance test to follow.

EPRI Industrial Rigging Recertification

This course is intended for members who wish to renew their rigging certification. The class will begin on September 30 and will continue on October 2, 7 and 9, all classes are 5-9 pm. Student will be required to write the 50 question recertification exam.

Ercolina Training

Students will learn the safe operation, components and functions of the Ercolina bending machine. This machine is commonly used in industries such as shipbuilding to bend larger tube sizes. Course date to be determined based on interest.

G-7 Gas

At the end of this 60 hour course each student will write the G-7 gas exam. You must be a Journeyman Plumber or Steamfitter to be eligible for this training. This certification is required to install gas piping in Nova Scotia. This course is expected to begin mid to late September.

Introductory Pressure Pipe Welding

This 60 hour introductory level program is intended for members who wish to learn basic SMAW pipe welding techniques. Students must have prior SMAW welding experience. This course will be scheduled based on member interest and availability

Gas Fitter B

This course is intended for members who wish to become Gas Fitter B qualified. The course will consist of online and instructor led training. Students must have or must be able to obtain supervised gas hours in order to be considered for the course. The class is expected to begin in late September and is dependent on member interest.

Steamfitter/Pipefitter

This course is for members who wish to challenge the Interprovincial exam. Applicants must have 10,800 hours of Steamfitting experience and will be required to complete the provincial application and provide the necessary supporting documents for review by Apprenticeship. Course duration is approximately 120 hours and will be scheduled based on interest, please register ASAP.
