Work Ready Training
Required for all members working under the Industrial, Commercial Institutional agreement.
CWB Testing-Feb. 7, test begins at 8 am
Pressure Pipe/Brazing Testing- Feb. 20, test begins at 8 am
Fall Protection- Jan. 29, 30, 5-9 pm, Feb. 26, 27, 5-9 pm
Confined Space-Jan. 22, 23, 5-9 pm, Feb. 19, 20, 5-9 pm
First Aid-Feb. 8, 8 am- 4 pm
Aerial Lift-Feb. 3, 5, 5-9 pm
At the end of this 60 hour course each student will write the G-7 gas exam. You must be a Journeyman Plumber or Steamfitter to be eligible for this training. This certification is required to install gas piping in Nova Scotia. This course is scheduled to begin on Jan. 7 and will be held Tuesday and Wednesday night’s 5-9 pm.
This 120 hour course is for members who wish to challenge the Interprovincial exam. Applicants must have 10,800 hours of Steamfitting experience and will be required to complete the provincial application and provide the necessary supporting documents for review by Apprenticeship. The course will begin on Jan. 7 and will be held Tuesday and Thursday nights 5-8 pm and every other Saturday 8 am-4 pm.
This 4 hour course is compulsory for all new members. Students will learn the history of unionism, the UA Standard for Excellence and their responsibility as union members. Next course dates. Jan. 27, 5-9 pm, Feb. 22, 8 am-noon.
This certification course is intended to teach members how to safely operate both telehandlers and forklifts. Next course Mar. 28, 8 am -4 pm (Work boots required)
Students will learn the safe operation, components and functions of the Ercolina bending machine. This machine is commonly used in industries such as shipbuilding to bend larger tube sizes. Course date to be determined based on interest.
Introductory Pressure Pipe Welding
This 60 hour introductory level program is intended for members who wish to learn basic SMAW pipe welding techniques. Students must have prior SMAW welding experience. This course will be scheduled based on member interest and availability.
This 40 hour course will cover the CSA regulations pertaining to the installation of medical gas piping systems and equipment. At the end of this course students will be required to pass the certification exam to receive CSA certification. This certification will be required in NS to install medical gas systems after March 31, 2020. This course is for Journeyman Plumbers and Steamfitters.
