Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We need you to make your voice heard.
We commend the Canadian Government on its commitments to implementing Investment Tax Credits for green technologies, which are tied to strong labour conditions. Now, the Building Trades need your support to make these commitments a reality.
To support workers and industry in transitioning to net zero, the Government should quickly follow through on implementing the Investment Tax Credits, the strong definition of Prevailing Wage, and the apprenticeship requirements, which will help grow the industry this fall. These credits and their labour conditions will help create good paying jobs for all workers and make sure that no worker is left behind in the transition to net zero.
To show your support and to ensure legislation is tabled and includes a strong definition of prevailing wage – based on union compensation – send a letter to your local Member of Parliament and Deputy Prime Minister Freeland.
Join the campaign and show your support for this issue by sending a letter today.
In solidarity,
Local 56 Members Win Big at UA National Apprentice Competition!
The UA National Apprentice Competition was held at Local 144 in Montreal June 10-16, 2023. During this event our apprentices showcased their superior skills in various projects and a written exam. We are very pleased and proud to report that our members did an amazing job at this competition and their efforts resulted in 1st place awards in Plumbing (Justin Hudson), Sprinklerfitter(Grace Westinberger) and HVAC-R (Tyler Huynh).
In addition, Steamfitter apprentice Josh Purcell was awarded the Standard for Excellence trophy which is awarded to the apprentice who best exemplifies the tenets and values of the UA as determined by their peers. Points considered are attitude, professionalism, quality of work, and any other quality personally held in high regard for a tradesperson.
The winners will now represent Canada at the UA International Apprentice Competition which will be held during this years Instructor Training Program in August in Ann Arbor Michigan.
Amazing work Brothers and Sisters and good luck at the international event!
